- Civil Society Engagement in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism Conducive to Terrorism- A side event held during the 26th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice took place in the 24th of May 2017. Several relevant stakeholders, from different parts of the globe (Europe, Asia and Africa), either from governmental and non-governmental bodies were present and shared their experiences regarding the importance of including CSOs in violent extremism prevention efforts. Overall, the event allowed Member States, the United Nations and civil society to share multi-dimensional and varied experiences, and reiterate the applicability of civil society experiences in fostering peaceful and inclusive societies around the world.
UNOCT-Civil Society Roundtable Event
UNOCT-Civil Society Roundtable Event – The third UNOCT- Civil Society Roundtable event was held virtually on the 29th of Novermber 2021. The event sought to strengthen and mainstream the Office’s partnerships with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and draw upon the diverse expertise, experience, outreach, and knowledge of civil society at the local, national, regional, and global level in its CT and P/CVE efforts. This event hosted a group of 30 CSOs from grassroots organisations, regional, and international non-profits, ensuring geographical diversity and including several women and youth-led organisations. Overall the event demonstrated UNOCT’s readiness to foster engagement with Civil Society Organisations in CT and P/CVE efforts in line with the seventh review of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
International Symposium on Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism
International Symposium on Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism- The International Symposium on Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism (ICVE) in Malaysia and Southeast Asia was organised as a multi-disciplinary symposium on P/CVE, focusing on different relevant topics and current challenges. Various scholars, researchers, and practitioners from Southeast Asia, Europe and America got together in an online setting, striving to promote collaboration, present research findings, and discuss policy implications on preventing/countering violent extremism.
22nd Annual Conference of the European Society of Criminology
The 22nd EUROCRIM took place in Malága, Spain, between the 21st and the 24th of September 2022, gathering hundreds of scholars, researchers, practitioners and experts on criminological themes.
During the conference, various presentations and panels were focused on radicalisation and violent extremism, sharing some of the most updated data on the topics.
R2COM was presented during the conference’s poster session, highlighting how P/CVE efforts should extend to the post-release settings by activating and mobilising civil society key players.
